The Price of Indie Comics
I came across this interesting article about beer that takes a look at how the culture of “paying more for a better thing” is growing against the culture of “paying less for a lot of a thing.” This is a trend comic artists should pay attention to, if they seek to make a business out of their artwork.
When a person connects with our art, they become interested in supporting it. A discounted price competitive with mainstream comics doesn’t really factor into that connection. This suggests that our primary focus - as Jonathan Coulton has also suggested - should be building those connections then making it easy for readers to support us.
